Shane Dorian may not be the biggest guy in the water, but don’t let that fool you for one second because he has the huevos of a 12-ton silverback gorilla. BS you say? Look closely. See that tiny spec getting tubed out this universe?
Yep, that would be Shane Dorian. Our very own Mighty Mouse. Rest assured the Sanuk stickers on his board have witnessed views few ever get to experience…or want to for that matter.
In the eyes of respected Hawaiian waterman, Dave Wassel, Shane is ”perhaps the best big-wave rider of his generation”. As a humble human, Shane may not tell you that himself, but it’s obvious he is no stranger to the compromising situations and heavy consequences XXL waves bring.
As a dedicated swell-hunter, Shane makes it a priority to hop flights around the world in search of the waves that would scare the pants of most mere mortals. This time, the looming challenge on his big-wave plate was none other than the Half-Moon Bay juggernaut,
Mavericks. In a recent
Surfline interview, Shane recounts his first session there. Shane scored “some of the biggest surf ever paddled into”. You can bet he needed some comfy sandals to kick back and recoup afterwards…

Sanuk’s Donavon Frankenreiter is at it again…
Donny has just released “Revisited”, a complete reinterpretation of his 2004 self-titled debut. Don’t sleep on this one because this aint just a re-recording. Oh no bruddah- the mustachioed maestro has some big time aloha spirit that gets conveyed through a myriad of hawaiian melodies and new sounds.
According to his Facebook, Donavon “felt inspired to pour his newfound love for the Hawaiian sound and laid back island vibe into a creative medium”. On the record you’ll find your body swaying to some traditional Hawaiian instruments. Ukuleles, lap steel and slack key guitars give a “completely new sound to favorites like ‘It Don’t Matter’ and ‘Free’. So, grab yourself a big ol’ mixplate, an ice cold island lager and throw couple shakas because summer has a new soundtrack.

Eat your heart out Twilight. Take a hike Jonas Brothers- because Sanuk has a few fanboys (and girls) of their own. UpDowna (short for Up a mountain, Down a Beer) is a blog run by humanoids that live for all things backpacking, hiking, camping, climbing, wilderness survival, skiing, snowboarding, and (of course) ice cold beer.
In a recently in a post entitled “Happy Feet“, they gave us some big time unsolicited groupie love that rivals that of all those giggly Justin Beiber fanatics. The post reveals quite clearly that they are big proponent of our Sidewalk Surfers. Bunny (who is a dude by the way) notes how, “everyone is making a big deal over those 5 toe things. If you like them that’s your thing, but I’m sticking to my guns with the comfort of my Sanuks!” Now that is what we’re talking about.
Bunny’s favorite uses of our swag including (but certainly not limited to) road trips, base camping, kickin’ around houses (and caves), picking up the mail box, making beer runs and “any other quick I need shoes situations”. For the UpaDowna crew, Sanuk’s are “not just footwear…but a must have piece of gear in [their] arsenal!”

Meet Maria Kuzmovich! Maria is our newest addition to the Sanuk surf team. She is a regular shred-a-saurus rex! Maria digs surfing, exploring new places and making videos (and probably long walks on the beach too).

Sanuk wonder-grom, Stevie Pittman, is proud to call North Carolina home-sweet-home. Recently, the ESA Mid-Atlantic Regional Surfing Championships were held in Virgina- which is not only “For Lovers”, but also high-flying ripper-shredders. Stevie ended up winning each one of his heats in the Menehune division. You know what that means… He snagged the 1st-place spot!
