Sanuk Staff Looking to Repeat at ASR “Office Booyz” Skate Showdown

Friday, August 13th, 2010

ASR Tradeshow is one heck of a weekend. The whole Sanuk office is pumped for its return in a couple days. One of the highlights, aside from the movin’ and shakin’, is the Office Booyz Skate Showdown.

It’s a skate contest, held at the same venue, designed solely for company employees to relive their glory days. The dreams of pushing a skate professionally may have been taken over by pushing papers, but that doesn’t mean this old dogs don’t have few tricks up their sandals.

Washed up? Not even close. Last year, Sanuk audio/visual wizard Joey Maiocco took home the “Hesh to Death” award in ASR’s Office Boyz Skate Comp. When Joey isn’t on the grind with headphones on head cutting mad clips, his “hardcore demeanor, tight pants and tranny skills” lend themselves to bringing home the bacon.

At the comp, Joey put down Final Cut Pro and picked up 200 greebacks, an OB Hesh helmet, Creature’s Coffin Cruiser Board, and Creature’s famous “Blader-Hater, Hacksaw deck. Cha-ching!

Making You Smile: The Sanuk Miracle

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

We love emails. No really- We do!

Why? Because, happy feet translate to happy fingers! It’s those fingers that type all the words that fill our inboxes. This week, our favorite appeared with the subject line: The Sanuk Miracle. Scotty B. brought it to us, and now we bring it to you:

My fiancé Nicole Marcy and I ride and race dirt bikes in Baja a lot, usually on multi-day trips with overnight stops at ranchos and mountain lodges. I always travel light and take what I can carry on my back: trunks, T-shirt and Sanuks. After 100 miles of riding, its always great to clean up and relax in some comfy gear. Sometimes Nicole rides and sometimes she follows me in a truck.

Coming off the mountain last spring, I lost one of my Sanuks when it fell off my back fender, where I had it strapped to my bike. When I stopped to take a leak about halfway down a 50 mile rural Baja route, I noticed that it was missing and decided to huck the lone flipper off into the canyon below. As I was trying to throw it, a feeling went through my bones to hang onto it and I didn’t want to litter the Baja landscape. I was bummed but strapped it securely to my fender again and continued toward Tecate.

Hours later, my fiancé Nicole Marcy and our friends, who had followed me down the 50 mile dirt route in a 4×4, joined us at a rancho outside Tecate and we had beers and dinner.  She told the entire group that she had an announcement to make specifically to me. She asked me if anything out of the ordinary happened on my ride that day and I told her it was uneventful except for losing one of my Sanuks.

She explained that she had been sleeping in the truck when she woke up from a dream and demanded that the driver stop the truck somewhere along a 50 mile stretch of the route and told everyone that something was wrong. Both trucks stopped and everyone got out to stretch and have a beer. Meanwhile she wandered 20-30 meters around the back of the truck for 20 minutes and no one could figure out what was going on until she looked down at the sandy dirt surface and picked up my stray Sanuk flip flop off the ground. She actually took a whiff and knew immediately that it was mine.

We believe in miracles and that we have ESP with each other. I will marry her next month on the beach, and of course, I’ll be wearing “The Miracle Sanuks”. Thanks Nicolean Dynamite and thanks Sanuk! - Scotty B.  aka Breauxman

And they both lived happily ever after…

Keep those emails flowing, Happyheads!

Sanuk Surf Team Signs for Survival at the US Open

Monday, August 9th, 2010

This last week, the US Open of Surfing was bigger than anyone could have ever imagined. After setting the bar higher than ever last year, many thought the event was as big as it could get. Ha, so much for that!

The week-long surf contest/party/madhouse/spectator’s dreamland blew through the stratosphere of what people thought a surf event could do. Hundreds of thousands from all over gathered to take in what the streets and beaches Huntington Beach had to offer. It was quite the spectacle….

Check out the hords of humans running rampant on the streets of HB… Could you stay comfy amongst all this?

Saying things weren’t any less crowded on the beach would be quite the understatement… Can you spot our intern surviving amongst the madness? Good thing he had his Beer Cozys on to keep calm and collected.

On Thursday, Sanuk got in on the action by stoking out hundreds (maybe even thousands) of rapid fans at Huntington Surf and Sport‘s Autograph Signing! As the line grew, so did the smiles. Groms, girls and grandpas were all pumped to see surf team riders Alek Parker, Balaram Stack, Timmy Turner, Peter Mel, Torrey Meister and Phillip Goold sign, sticker and chat on the warm afternoon…

The Sanuk Surf Team passing on smiles one signature at a time.

Torrey, Alek and Timmy ending up on a lovely lady’s Facebook somewhere….

It’s a rough life, but somebody’s gotta live it!

Looks like all that So Cal sun has put a little shade above Balaram’s lip…

Diamond Donny Frankenreiter Swings On Down for the US Open

Friday, August 6th, 2010

This week, The US Open of Surfing has been a madhouse. Huntington Beach has already seen its fair share of humans stroll through…and it’s only Friday.

Thursday night, Blackbull Chophouse threw a Coors Light shindig with Donavon Frankenreiter as the centerpiece. Donny kicked out all the classics with bandmates Ken Garcia and Matt Grundy.

There was even an impromptu cameo by international man of mystery, Rob Machado.

The place was packed to the brim as Donny brought down the house in true sing-a-long fashion. Here’s a couple stills our intern, Adam, snagged along the way:

Stay tuned for more coverage from the US Open!
