Carefree Cravings: Seth Pettersen & the Undertow

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

So you’re having a backyard barbecue. The brats, brews, and buddies are all raring to go. Heck, even your unreasonably attractive neighbors said they would stop by! Score.

But somethings missing. You need one last ingredient to make everything really click (other than your Sanuks, duh). What you need is the perfect soundtrack! Some sort of musical mojo to kick get everyone feelin’ care free.

Make room on that playlist for our pal Seth Pettersen- A good ol’ boy from Ventura, California with a sound as soothing as that aloe vera you’ll be needing after all that drunken bocce-ball

Yep, your shindig is now in full effect. Next thing you know, day turns to night with no end in sight. Your friends make that second beer run, someone lights the bonfire and – wait a minute - is someone’s naked in the pool?! It’s a good day.

Like what you hear? Dig this vibe?

Pee Nut vs. HappyU – A Rainy Day Showdown

Monday, March 21st, 2011

When it rains for extended periods of time, our crew tends to go a bit stir crazy (anything past 2hrs is just plain unacceptable).

Doppler 7000 Radar out butts! This is Southern California and we are spoiled rotten. We’d rather be surfing, hiking, climbing, riding tandem bikes to the pub, [insert outdoor activity of choice here]… All the time!

At Sanuk HQ, even the most adamant computer-chair dwellers are devoted outdoor enthusiasts. So when the “crappy weather” keeps us indoors, we look to simple boredom cures to save our sanity (the small amounts we have).

Here’s a quick doodle from a member of our Creative Team. Our boy, Andrew was prowling ffffound.com for some goods when he came across this…

Surfboard R&D with Sanuk’s Rachael Tilly

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

In surfing, hanging ten piggies over doesn’t come without hours of practice and a cultivated knowledge of one’s equipment. What better way to learn the ropes than getting hands-on in the shaping bay?

Here is 12 year-old Sanuk surfeamer, Rachael Tilly, working with legendary shaper, Terry Martin, to perfect her shred sleds.

While Terry has been shaping surfboards for longer than Rachael has been alive, it hasn’t stopped him from taking our “lady of logging” under his expert tutelage.

Terry serves as Rachael’s coach (and friend), helping her to progress and taken her surfing to the next level.

In fact, since teaming up with Terry, Rachael has been on a tear. Her time spent learning the crucial fundamentals of traditional single fin logging has, without question, allowed her develop a smooth style well beyond her years.

As it goes, Rachael’s currently spending time soaking up aloha in Hawaii. Her goal is to further dial in the new equipment in challenging conditions- giving her the competitive edge upon returning state-side.

Look for more Tilly Tales coming soon.

Happy Sanuk’s on Hagen Gorge

Monday, March 14th, 2011

If you haven’t noticed, the Sanuk collection of athletes and/or friends grows by the day. Our smiles shine even brighter knowing our footwear has a special place in the hearts of talented, comfort-loving adventure-seekers all over the world.

From surfing to rock-climbing, kayaking to competitive bocce-ball and beyond, we’ve got one diverse posse. Why? Because no matter what activity one participates in, there’s always room for mind-numbing comfort.

It’s a fact: Having happy feet leads to better performance. Better performance leads to better attitude. Better attitudes leads to more smiling. Any Einstein worth his or her weight in sandals knows that!

With that said, here is a little somethin’ something from Kim Russell- a kayaker with a love for all things whitewater and comfy sandals. Here’s what she has to say about what makes her smile:

If you ask me to describe Whitewater Kayaking in one word, it’d be the same word I would use to describe my Sanuks: Awesome!

Those of us in the Columbia River Gorge are absolutely spoiled by the multitude of runs within an hour driving distance. One of those runs, Hagen Gorge, a class IV/V tributary of the NF Washougal River, is an absolute gem. It is hard to catch when it’s in, and has evaded me for the past few years… until this past Friday.

Thanks to Sanuk for keeping my feet cozy, comfy and dry! My feet couldn’t be happier.
