Grom Alert! Sanuk Shredders on a Rampage

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Hide the candy, lock the door, and runs for the hills… the groms are on the loose!

This last weekend, a handful of Sanuk’s little monsters went on a competition rampage in a few of the local surf series here in Southern California.

At the WSA West Coast Championships in San Clemente, Ryland Rubens, took home the 12U – first place trophy! Word on the beach says Ry was so relaxed the whole event, he didn’t even take his PJs off. The big victory qualifies Ryland for a coveted spot in the USA Championships in July. Here he stands with another addition to the hardware collection.

At the same event, our little lady shredders, Ashley Beeson and Malia Faramarzi, made the finals in their division and locked down 2nd and 4th place respectively!

Over at the NSSA Explorer our pal, Zach McCormick, won the Super Grom Conference title! Don’t let his miniature stature fool you, because the win seats him in first place in the rankings going into regionals.

Best of luck to all as they continue to kick major patooty!

Coming in Hot: Kid Creature

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

All kids have to wear clothes right?  -”Right”.

Most kids despise getting dressed in the morning, right? -”Right again”.

And most kids these days can’t stand what mommy and daddy pick out for them in the local department store. – “Three in a row, we get it”, you mutter.

That’s norm, right? Not for long!

Enter: Calvin Saxon, a salty, long-haired surf-stoked gremlin residing in Newport Beach, California- who just happens to be your new favorite entrepreneur.

Wait, what? Did we just say entrepreneur? Correct. He’s about to shatter that norm. Allow us to introduce you:

The youngest of 3 siblings, Calvin has managed to carve quite niche for himself. Calvin spent his “early” years (as if being 10 years old isn’t young enough) battling severe allgeries (including a potentially deadly one with peanuts). Turns out the little bugger is also asthmatic… Yikes.

The one thing that eases his symptoms and makes him feel better?

You guessed it- Surfing.

Oddly enough, despite having bouts of asthma attacks on land, its in the water were Calvin “literally never cough(s) or labor(s)”. Good ol’ surfing. It is through surfing that Calvin has found an even bigger passion and creative endeavor: KID CREATURE.

Calvin makes all kinds of unique designs that find their way on to shirts. He’s got everything from monsters and people to fruits and veggies-all with a flare and unique style that has started to catch the attention of the surf industry. Shirts arent the only thing Calvin get’s busy on- it appears he’ll doodle on antyhing he can get his hands on…. Here is a letter he sent us:

And here, Calvin inks up his first human being:

What’s Calvin’s secret? Doing what puts a smile on his face. No wonder why we’re stoked on his adventures (and you should be too).

Oh yeah, and he’s got an art show coming up! Check it out firsthand:

Sanuk Applies the SPF (and Smiles) at Santa Barbara Surf Camp

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Surf camps are what summer is all about. Good thing Billabong runs a series surf camps all summer long to make sure the groms get the summer they deserve. Truckload after truckload of SPF125 is unloaded every week as hundreds of little gremlins take to the beach.

The goal? Get kids in the water and give ‘em the “surfing bug”. It’s a simple concept that keeps the smiles flowing. At a recent stop in Santa Barbara, Sanuk dropped by to apply some of that SPF and a few mustaches too. Here’s a few shots from the summer:

The insta-fun has arrived.
