In the eyes of respected Hawaiian waterman, Dave Wassel, Shane is  ”perhaps the best big-wave rider of his generation”. As a humble human, Shane may not tell you that himself, but it’s obvious he is no stranger to the compromising situations and heavy consequences XXL waves bring.

As a dedicated swell-hunter, Shane makes it a priority to hop flights around the world in search of the waves that would scare the pants of most mere mortals. This time, the looming challenge on his big-wave plate was none other than the Half-Moon Bay juggernaut, Mavericks. In a recent Surfline interview, Shane recounts his first session there.
