Mind Surfing: I Could’ve Made That Wave, Bro.

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

In the world of surfing today, documentation is bigger than ever. Whether you’ve been jet-setting around the world in search of perfect pits or running across the beach at your local spot, you’ve got to have proof- right?

You wouldn’t want to come home empty-handed (especially when you intend on boasting to your bros), would you? After all it’s: Get the shot. Bag the clip. Get the girl (or boy). Right? At least, that’s what they tell us…

Let’s say (hypothetically of course), the waves are firing at your local spot with no one around… but you don’t have a photographer handy to film you gettin’ shreddy with your best bud. Sounds like you’re stuck in pickle.

Don’t panic. Do as Sanuk’s Philip Goold and Bretty Barley did. Grab the nearest camera, film for a few minutes and GET OUT THERE! That way you’ve got just enough proof for some high-quality mindsurfing material AND most importantly- you got to surf.

Creature Feature by STAB Magazine

Monday, February 14th, 2011

We’re willing to wager a pretty penny that our favorite little buddy, Cal Saxton, and Stab Magazine, hit it off big time when they met on the playground.

From the looks of it, the fun-loving, debauchery-infused, fire-spitting periodical has taking quite a liking to Kid Creature- giving away Cal’s shirts with every subscribtion. That’s right. You can now get your read on AND look fly doin’ it…

About STAB: “Stab represents a cultural shift in surfing that began with the globalisation of everything via high-speed internet access… Stab leads the change among surfers that includes a new sense of fashion, a powerful interest in pop culture and a desire to see surfing from new angles. Stab creates interest and draws from diverse sources. It cooks up world-first exclusives and forces debate. Stab is the base that defines the sport and the era’s cultural renaissance.”

What the heck are we talking about?

Interview with a Hiker: Justin Lichter

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Recently, Sanuk’s Grizzly Adam caught up with professional wanderer, Justin Lichter (a.k.a. Trauma in the hiking world) in an exclusive interview. His mission: to get the scoop on Trauma’s upcoming globetrotting.

Grizzly Adam: Why don’t we start by having you tell the Sanukiverse a little bit about yourself, eh?

Justin: Sure thing. I grew up about an hour north of NewYork City and have since lived in Santa Barbara, CA, southern VT, Dillon, CO, and I am currently living in Truckee, CA. When not hiking, I am a ski patroller and enjoy backcountry skiing, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and pretty much anything else relaxing.

GA: Truly a man of the great outdoors. Just our vibe. So Justin, what brings you to the Sanuk Blog today?

Justin: I am getting ready for another expedition and just wanted to keep you all up to date.

GA: Ya don’t say! Where to this time? Nebraska? The Bahamas? Outback Steakhouse?

Justin: Nah, I just bought my plane tickets to Kathmandu. I fly out on March 21st.

GA: KathmanDUDE! Wait, where the hell is that?

Justin: (pulls out wrinkled map from pocket). Right here, man.

GA: Yeah, definitely never been there… So what’s on the agenda while you’re over there?

Justin: Well, I am still in the planning stages and trying to get everything organized. But the plan is to hike about 3000 miles from the easternmost 8000 meter peak in the Himalayas to the westernmost 8000 meter peak.

GA: 3000 Miles? That’s like walkin from California to New York City…

Justin: Precisely.

GA: You getting excited or what?

Justin: Definitely. This should be an amazing trip and I can’t wait to get over there and experience it. Right now I am handling all of the logistics, permits, visas, route planning, and all of those random things.

GA: Logistics-Smagistics. Sounds like you’re on top of it.

Justin: Speaking of, I gotta run. TSA is hounding me like a madman. I’ll keep you all up to date as the trip gets closer!
