Grab the remote and load up on the chips ‘n guac because this Thursday, August 19 (That’s tomorrow!) at 9:00 pm EST (6:00 pm PST) Sanuk big wave warrior, Shane Dorian, will appear on “The Daily Habit” along with charger Manoa Drollet and “Rules of Engagement” funny man Patrick Warburton.
“The Daily Habit” is aFuel TV original series that airs every weeknight. Hosted by the hilarious Pat Parnell, the show is a mashup of the action sports that delivers the “best in pop culture with today’s top action sports personalities, cutting-edge music, product reviews, and comedy”.
Tomorrow, Shane is taking a a break from chasing water mountains to discuss what it’s like to ride the biggest and baddest waves the world has to offer. Shane will even be dishing the dirty details on his hair-raising debut a Mavericks. Set that DVR is you have to, but don’t miss it!
Shane Dorian may not be the biggest guy in the water, but don’t let that fool you for one second because he has the huevos of a 12-ton silverback gorilla. BS you say? Look closely. See that tiny spec getting tubed out this universe?
Yep, that would be Shane Dorian. Our very own Mighty Mouse. Rest assured the Sanuk stickers on his board have witnessed views few ever get to experience…or want to for that matter.
In the eyes of respected Hawaiian waterman, Dave Wassel, Shane is ”perhaps the best big-wave rider of his generation”. As a humble human, Shane may not tell you that himself, but it’s obvious he is no stranger to the compromising situations and heavy consequences XXL waves bring.
As a dedicated swell-hunter, Shane makes it a priority to hop flights around the world in search of the waves that would scare the pants of most mere mortals. This time, the looming challenge on his big-wave plate was none other than the Half-Moon Bay juggernaut, Mavericks. In a recent Surfline interview, Shane recounts his first session there. Shane scored “some of the biggest surf ever paddled into”. You can bet he needed some comfy sandals to kick back and recoup afterwards…

In Chile, a select crew of big wave surfers were invited to the Quiksilver Ceremonial Big Wave contest at Punta de Lobos. Sanuk’s big-wave chargers Peter Mel, Ramon Navarro and Shane Dorian were on hand to push the limits and conquer gargantuan Chilean water mountains. The purpose of the event was raise funds for local disaster relief efforts in wake of February’s devastating earthquake and tsunami. All riders pledged to donate 50% of their prize winnings to help the cause. The total prize purse of the event topped out at $30,000.

The winners will be announced on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the tenth-annual invitation-only awards gala at the Grove Theater in Anaheim, California.
…being recognized from that swell is the first dual surfer nomination for a single ride in XXL history — the iconic Waimea closeout set caught and ridden by Hawaiian watermen Mark Healey and Shane Dorian. (Dorian is the first surfer to ever be credited with TWO waves as a finalist in the same category.)
