Sanuk Surf Team Signs for Survival at the US Open

Monday, August 9th, 2010

This last week, the US Open of Surfing was bigger than anyone could have ever imagined. After setting the bar higher than ever last year, many thought the event was as big as it could get. Ha, so much for that!

The week-long surf contest/party/madhouse/spectator’s dreamland blew through the stratosphere of what people thought a surf event could do. Hundreds of thousands from all over gathered to take in what the streets and beaches Huntington Beach had to offer. It was quite the spectacle….

Check out the hords of humans running rampant on the streets of HB… Could you stay comfy amongst all this?

Saying things weren’t any less crowded on the beach would be quite the understatement… Can you spot our intern surviving amongst the madness? Good thing he had his Beer Cozys on to keep calm and collected.

On Thursday, Sanuk got in on the action by stoking out hundreds (maybe even thousands) of rapid fans at Huntington Surf and Sport‘s Autograph Signing! As the line grew, so did the smiles. Groms, girls and grandpas were all pumped to see surf team riders Alek Parker, Balaram Stack, Timmy Turner, Peter Mel, Torrey Meister and Phillip Goold sign, sticker and chat on the warm afternoon…

The Sanuk Surf Team passing on smiles one signature at a time.

Torrey, Alek and Timmy ending up on a lovely lady’s Facebook somewhere….

It’s a rough life, but somebody’s gotta live it!

Looks like all that So Cal sun has put a little shade above Balaram’s lip…

What a week! For more coverage than you can even imagine slunk on over to www.usopenofsurfing.com

Sanuk’s Donavon Frankenreiter Sings, Surfs and Signs in Florida

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Recently, Sanuk’s trippin’ troubadour, Donavon Frankenreiter, made Ft. Lauderdale a stop on his tour. Donny jammed out at a couple stops in the area and even made a guest surf-instructor appearance at the Hang Loose Surf School. The surf school is part of Billabong’s effort to get groms filled to the brim with stoke.

Even before Donavon’s arrival, the little salties did everything they could to emulate his signature style. Many of them dawned dark Zinka mustaches to greet him. Upon Donny’s entrance, the crowd of mustachioed mini-donnies erupted in euphoria. Just look a ‘em! Smiles for days.

Why yes, that is a signed Sanuk! But the fun didn’t end there. Oh no, not even close. Next, it was time to throw on trunks and go for a surf.

Word on the water says one of the kids had mastered one of Donavon’s songs on the ukulele. You know what that means….Donny duet time!

With permanent markers always on hand, Donny takes a sweet second to sign a pair of Sanuks for a happy fan. Righteous! Head over to Donavon’s Website for full coverage. We didn’t take these photos, but Stoked Entertainment did.

Maria Kuzmovich Knocks the Socks the Competition in Puerto Rico

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Ergo Underground has been hosting a sweet series of impromptu contests. Their mission: assemble a posse of talented surfers in a “friendly clash” of for a little cash. With this series, Ergo Underground has taken the “for surfers, by surfers” vibe to a whole new level.

Puerto Rican surfers ran everything from registrations, heat match-ups, and even judging. Turns out these shredfiends can throw down proper turn and a killer event. Who says surfers can’t be productive? (Don’t answer that…)

From start to finish, Sanuk’s Maria Kuzmovich put quite the show. The Open Women’s Division final cranked for a solid 20 minutes straight. Maria, found herself behind the 8 ball for most up the heat, but that didn’t stop her from pulling some Kobe-esque game winning madness. In the last five minutes of the final, Maria laid on the heavy. Quickly, she posted the two highest scores of the heat and took home the win!

Maria’s motto, “Go bright or go home!”

Drawing lines some boys can only dream of…

Winner, winner- Chicken dinner!

Official Open Women’s Results:
1. Maria Kuzmovich
2. Lilac Alvarado
3. Cristina Hernandez
4. Natty Perez
5. Liz Hauser

Sanuk’s Alek Parker Chases Hurricane Swells with a Smile on His Face

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Sanuk surf-teamer, Alek Parker, knows a thing or two about big blobs on the radar. Blobs? Yes. Blobs. Big ones like these…

That blob happens to be Hurricane Alex. Say hello. Classified as a “tropical depression”, Hurricane Alex has generated some solid surf along the Gulf Coast. Parker has been chasing blobs like Hurricane Alex all year. Needless to say, it’s go time! Most recently, Alex and friends went on a Transworld Surf excursion to get some shots. Good thing the photogs had their lenses ready, because Alek put on a show.Check out the fruits of his labor of love:
