Counting Miles of Comfort in Sanuks

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Ever think about walking 400 miles? Kim Olpin has.

A few days ago, Kim wrote us an email sharing just how far her Sanuks have taken her. Over the past 39 days Kim has walked upwards of 330 miles all for Floating Doctors—a non-profit whose mission is to bring free health care to the most remote communities in the world. Kim’s ambitious goal is to raise $100,000.

Legend has it, Kim set a goal to walk 400 miles in the Los Angeles area. She chose 400 because that equates to 1 mile for every 500 Floating Doctors heading out on their missions this year.

Kim said she has always preferred cruising barefoot or in flip-flops but recently noticed she needed a little more foot protection for this much city slicking. Honestly, just the thought of walking barefoot in LA terrifies the bajeepers out of us… Kim is one brave sole (pun intended).

“If you think it takes forever to get anywhere in LA via freeway, try walking there…”

Kim’s Weapons of Choice: The Vagabond

In Kim’s first week, she tried number of different pairs of “regular” shoes but disliked every single one. No wonder! Shoes are for dorks. Once Kim tried our “not a shoes”, she claims it was love at first step.

Kim has worn them for nearly 300 miles despite naysayers expressing their disbelief. As fellow footwear enthusiast and blogger, Kim has been documenting her slightly crazy endeavor on Wellness Walkabout.

As of June 23rd Kim has walked a total: 352.72 miles with only 47.28 miles remaining. Woot! Keep that pedometer working overtime!
